Some of us will remember an age when you had to queue at a pay phone to call home when you were away, The famous red phone box on every corner is now a distant memory now that every man and his dog has got a smartphone in their pockets.

For our young, who have grown up in this digital age can't conceive of a world without text messages, YouTube videos and Facebook. The older folk amongst us would do well to heed the below 'rules of engagement' when communicating on the Information Superhighway.
1. Don't Leave Voicemail Messages

If you didn't know yet, no one born after 1980 listens to their voicemails. When someone does call you back don't assume they've heard your message. Because 'No one Listens To Their Voicemail!'

2. Email With Caution
I'm not sure what the age cut off is on this, but millennials only read their email every leap year Send a text. If that's beyond you, it's probably time to learn. This is how the world works now.
3. Don't Text A Landline
If you are brave enough to dabble in texting, don't text a landline. If you haven't had a reply to your urgent text message, you are probably texting a landline!

4. Don't Call Or Text Repeatedly If you must call, please, don't call repeatedly. Yes, they will have seen you called.. Sometimes though people are too busy to respond immediately. Be patient.

5. Don't Expect Handwritten Letters Really, don't expect anything in writing. Not even wedding invitations. Millennials don't know where to buy stamps or how to use them.

6. Use The Digital Gift Registry With weddings, new babies, showers and so on, unless you're giving money, get the people what they want. It's not rude. They had them back in the day. They just weren't on-line.

7. Stop buying Maps (Use The App) Use your GPS. It's on your phone. Don't even print out directions and turn your car into a four wheeled paper basket and forget those bloody maps you can never fold properly. Using the Maos App on your phone is so easy, just give it a try!

8. Get A Smartphone ASAP When did you last upgrade your 'phone'? If not in the last three years, its time to get with the programme!
