PIE in the Palm

695x255_002 As a young man in the early nineties, I was working for a leading Telecommunications company in the UK. It was whilst working there that I came across the expression 'PIE in the Palm'.

The term related to the early mobile communications industry referring to 'People', 'Information' and 'Entertainment' delivered to your hand in the form of a portable computing device. Decades before the advent of 3G, WiFi & Smartphones it was still a very 'conceptual' idea. At the time, there were a lot of different technology sectors with many of the large technology companies producing different types of devices. Sony, Sega and Nintendo fought bitter wars over their different gaming consoles.

Mobile Telephony was just starting to emerge with the likes of Hutchinson's 'Rabbit' and Mercury's 'One2One' mobile phones and mobile computing was just starting to develop in the form of the Psion Organiser, Apple's Powerbook and early IBM Thinkpad laptops. Indeed, it wasn't until April 2000 that the iPaq Pocket PC was launched. Satellite Television too was being offered in those days by 'BSkyB', the company that has since become 'Sky TV'

Some of us will remember an age when you had to queue at a pay phone to call home when you were away, The famous red phone box on every corner is now a distant memory now that every man and his dog has got a smartphone in their pockets.

For our young, who have grown up in this digital age can't conceive of a world without text messages, YouTube videos and Facebook. The older folk amongst us would do well to heed the below 'rules of engagement' when communicating on the Information Superhighway.

The Science Of Getting Rich

The-Science-of-Getting-Rich

I first came across Wallace Wattle's book as part of a programme of personal development which led me to a number of books around self improvement. There are a good number of books available that would fit into this category including notable favourites like “The Power of Positive Thinking.”, “Law of Attraction” or “The Secret". All of which are a very worthwhile read, full of positive and practical advice about retraining one's attitudes and expectations. Many of these books can trace their origins back to Wattle's work which was first published at the turn of the last century in 1900. Wattle's book may be relatively unknown to many yet it is the original source of most of these other great multi-million dollar bestselling books. Wonderfully, this book is available for free as an E-book and can be downloaded by clicking the image below :-

Get Happy

happy

Let's face it, life can be pretty tough at the best of times. In this day and age it can be a hectic, stressful and challenging experience. Things don't often go right and life can even be cruel at times. How is it then that some people seem to have an inner glow and seem to bubble over with happiness all of the time?

Yet there seems also to be another type of person who is always predicting the worst, complains about everything and finds fault in everything and everyone.

Whilst I would never attempt to explain the reasons why people can have such varying outlooks on life, experts would agree that there are things which anyone can do. If observed for a period of time these 'tips to living' can bring about an improved sense of wellbeing and a greater appreciation of life. Many would agree that much like exercise improves the body, regular training of the mind can improve one's general sense of happiness.

The Power Of The Mind

imagesEPLGANUX

Both experts & novices cannot help but agree that the mind is an amazing thing. Just how amazing however is still not yet fully understood even with our modern scientific understanding. We know that maintaining a positive attitude brings about more positive outcomes and that worry and pessimism brings about the opposite result but why is this?

For many, this is simply put down to the concept of 'Mind Power' Mind Power experts state that all physical reality is made up of vibrations of energy. Your thoughts too are vibrations of energy and this is something that can be proven in quantum physics. Your thoughts have a powerful influence; they affect what happens to you.
