The Power Of The Mind

imagesEPLGANUX

Both experts & novices cannot help but agree that the mind is an amazing thing. Just how amazing however is still not yet fully understood even with our modern scientific understanding. We know that maintaining a positive attitude brings about more positive outcomes and that worry and pessimism brings about the opposite result but why is this?

For many, this is simply put down to the concept of 'Mind Power' Mind Power experts state that all physical reality is made up of vibrations of energy. Your thoughts too are vibrations of energy and this is something that can be proven in quantum physics. Your thoughts have a powerful influence; they affect what happens to you.

Getting Social

imagesMBWM7R9C

Most people would think of the history of Social Media starting with the likes of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Whilst these sites most definitely propelled social media in to the limelight, they don't represent the original social networking platforms.

What if I said that the history of social media started in the era of 'Flower Power' way back in 1969.

The truth is that email and bulletin board services (BBS) should be acknowledged as the foundation of the social media revolution of the 2000’s. Prior to that, we didn’t have the digital culture, aka mindset, of communicating and engaging with others using online services.

Cash In The Attic

article-2637365-0A866B1E000005DC-507_634x423

Since its launch 20 years ago, EBay has become s household name across the world. With sites in virtually every major country in the world it has literally millions of users globally. The original concept was fairly simple. It provided a platform for people with items they wished to sell to advertise their item to people who might be interested in bidding for them.

Similar to an online 'swap meet' or 'Yard Sale' The 'online auction' was born. Allowing users to bid on an item until the clock ran down and the highest bidder winning the auction.

New Life Skills

imagesHXSS605L
As we grow up we are taught skills and techniques from our parents, teachers and relatives that help us to develop life skills. This begins with basic tasks like dressing yourself, tying your shoelaces and eating at the dinner table. At school we learn how to write ever more complex sentences, how to do long division and how to ask for directions in a number of European Languages. As we get older we learn other essential skills like good manners, punctuality, time management plus many other 'business skills' As we progress in age, possibly becoming a home owner, settle down and get married and maybe even have children, the pressures of life increases. Greater responsibility at work adds to the increasing demands of home life.

Ding Dong, Neighbour Calling

avon006
At some point in your past you may have been approached by a family member or friend trying to convince you to watch a video they have about a great product you wouldn't have heard of before. Or you've had a phone call from a distant relative who proudly announces He's started his own Business as an Independent Distributer for a leading brand in health / weight-loss / energy products. One that you don't ever remember seeing an advert for. Worst of all is the mysterious knock on the door from a neighbour you've done little more than wave at occasionally in the entire time you have lived there. They greet you like a long lost best friend and want to spark up a conversation about what an extra £1,000 a week would make to our lives.
You might even have taken sympathy on them and agreed to take part in a three way call or have another complete stranger coming round with them to talk about the benefits of this amazing product plus they are really keen to talk to you about a fantastic Business opportunity that you can do with just a few hours of your spare time each week.

Virtual Learning - Beyond the 3 Rs

classroom1

Learning in the new Millennium is a very different thing. Fortunately, the days of 'learning by rote' are long gone as we have learnt more about how the brain records the information it is given. Whilst the Education System has worked hard to try to modernise itself, it is still steeped in the 'old ways' of learning with rigid syllabuses and vast collections of text books given to students to read and digest.

Whilst books will continue to remain relevant, technology has enabled us to deliver information in a number of ways which engages us differently. The practise of consuming knowledge from vast chapters of printed words has been replaced, at least partially, by video content, audio content and fully interactive experiences.

Since the advent of the Internet, the way we are consuming information has drastically changed. Sales of magazines of all types both Business to Business and Consumer has fallen away sharply with both readership and print runs plummeting over the last 10 years. Advertising Revenues also have plummeted for these titles as Companies shift their marketing strategies towards online models.

Old Dog New Tricks

old_dog
When was the last time you learnt something new? It may only have been a small thing. Like learning to upgrade your phone or installing an App on your tablet. Or you may be the other type of person who buys all the latest gizmos and keeps up to date with the latest features of Android Lollipop. Chances are though, the new thing you learnt was probably tech related.

For some, the thought of retuning the Digital set-top box or setting up the new widescreen TV without some kind of science degree is a daunting task. Yet more and more, we are faced with these kind of 'technology challenges' on a regular basis. Where some of us have a natural aptitude for these things, others do not.

Cookie Cutter Business

cookie-cutter-xsmall
Whether it’s a long-held ambition to be your own boss, a desire to find a new challenge, taking on something rewarding that fits around a family, changing your life completely, securing your finances, or something else altogethe there are many different reasons people become franchisees. And that means an enormous array of different backgrounds, personalities and skill sets in the sector.
The attraction of the Franchise is clear enough. Buying into a strong brand gives you a head start over starting your own Business from scratch. Proven and tested supply systems that take the headache out of finding the right suppliers, getting effective pricing and having a strong customer base straight out of the gate are all things that help a new venture get off the ground faster and be generating revenue that much quicker than a regular Business start-up.

Storage Wars

storage

The rise of the Self-Storage industry has taken many parts of the world by storm. From a Business perspective, the industry is a complete goldmine. The theory is, buy an old run down warehouse on the outskirts of any major city that can't be used for retail purposes (and is therefore very cheap to buy), break it into small individual storage units and then charge customers a fee each month to keep the things that they no longer need but can't bring themselves to part with. The industry may now be somewhat over-saturated but there is no denying that there is a genuine need in the Market and it is likely to keep increasing.

So, why is there such a desperate need for people to pay for additional storage space?

Are You Part Of The 'Digital Economy'?

30247713-01_big
The term 'Digital Economy' was coined in Don Tapscott's 1995 best-seller The Digital Economy: Promise and Peril in the Age of Networked Intelligence.
The Digital Economy was among the first books to show how the Internet would change the way we did business. It became an international best-seller within one month of its release, appearing on a number of best-seller lists, including the New York Times Business Book list and a seven month run on the BusinessWeek best sellers list. BusinessWeek also named The Digital Economy the top selling business book for 1996.

Are You Coming Out To Play?

schoolplay_1369567c

Do you remember the thrill of your summer holidays? Weeks away from school when you could play out with your friends almost every day. Each day starting with the round of door knocking to request if your friends 'were allowed out to play?'. Then the endless hours of bike riding, playing ball games and inventing schemes and adventures to fill the hours.
Even during term time, if you were lucky you could get a few hours 'playing out' before the sun set and you had to go home for a bath.
Memories for most of us consist of groups of children of varying ages, hanging around in the local park or playground or generally loafing around on street corners. Occasionally the younger kids would be building a den, racing twigs along streams or some other imaginative pastime.

More Boy?

640px-The_Writings_of_Charles_Dickens_v4_p12_(engraving,_cleaned)
It is said that the amount of information a person consumed in a month two hundred years ago is equivalent to what a person consumes in a single day in 2015.
Information is blasted at us, some sought, some not, every hour of the day. From the moment we wake up, we are receiving information. From the radio, from the television, as we check our phones. On the way to the office, we are subconsciously absorbing advertising hoardings above ground and on the platforms and the train carriages underground.
As we read the morning paper we are consuming still more advertisements and insights that cause us to shape our opinions of life.
Even during our favourite TV shows and movies, we are being shown brands and products which reinforce our already established awareness of the world.

Money is Power?

Bull_5683

What is the correct way to measure the wealth of a man?

The amount of gold he possesses? How many livestock? The money he has in the bank?  Is it the material things that a man owns that which defines his success? I'm sure that there are many of you that would agree with some of these questions.

It is true, that we have been taught that 'Money is Power' and that Man has put great effort into obtaining and stockpiling the things that make them wealthy. Our ancestors put great stock into collecting rare stones and ores as they possess great value. Is it as relevant now as it used to be as to how many 'things' one owns?

Adapt or Die

Woolworths

For many companies and individuals the rise of the Internet and the use of the web to market and promote oneself has caught them off guard. In more recent years the adoption of online purchases has marked the death knell for the high street retailer that has failed to keep abreast. Many companies have had to invest huge sums of money to employ specialist talent to devise and develop an online strategy for their Businesses. Many have paid extortionate rates to have this work carried out.
At the same time many individuals have invested in themselves to learn the skills needed to properly build and promote websites and have quickly gotten to grips with the many ways that social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter allow Business to engage with their customers.

You Starting?

business-start-up
For many, starting their own business would be an impossible dream. Some business-minded individuals are able to set up independent Companies to provide a skill or service as a Business. Most are content to offer their skills to an employer for the predictability of a monthly pay cheque.

Small business owners have to have a broad understanding of the many factors of running a Business and need to effectively manage costs as well as their complete supply chain. Predictably because of the huge amount of investment required in starting a Business, it takes several years before most Companies start to break even. This is the main reason that over 90% of new Businesses fail in their first five years.

Work is what you do not where you go

imagesUI4YV8BF

With advances in mobile technologies many staff have the ability to remain 'connected' wherever they are. With increased connectivity and computing power available away from the office it is no longer necessary for some workers to travel to the office to be able to work.

The concept of flexible working is attractive to many and most companies are keen to attract the kind of staff that would find this appealing. It does however present challenges for many businesses who continue to observe the older practises of presenteeism. Many companies still consider that if someone is not at their desks during the day then they must not be working.

Get An Education

Lmspic

For generations we have been taught to ‘Get An Education’ and to expect ‘An honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work’. So children strive to get their grades so that they can advance through the education system with the best skills and knowledge in an effort to achieve better rates of pay than their competitors in the work marketplace. Children are taught the same ways of studying from the same type of syllabuses as they have always been and yet much of the knowledge that we give them is clearly outdated for a rapidly evolving and changing world.

We inform our students that they should stay on at school and work through the higher education system as this is the only way to set oneself ahead of others yet most graduates leave university to find that they are unable to find the type of job or salary that they have spent years preparing for only to join the ranks of less educated people swapping time for money in an attempt to earn a crust to allow them to survive.

The Old Ways of Working

images2IYPVUK4

Business has traditionally always required premises, staff and inventory. It needed various departments including Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and Sales as well as many others.
It needed it’s staff at the same place at the same time with all of the supporting departments working together. The various overheads like rent, wages, marketing, purchasing and production all had to be generated through the Company’s profits meaning most Businesses have to work hard simply to cover their costs.

The World is Changing

World

Before the internet came along, the way people work, the way people get information and the way people communicate was very different.

We all know the theory of trading your time and skills for a salary. Many of us endure a commute to work several times a week and most people live their lives by the clock, making sure they are at work at a specific time and then focused on getting through the day to be able to head back home to enjoy their ‘own time’

The idea of being engaged in a ‘work-week’ so that one can enjoy ‘the week-end’ is common the World over.

The Internet is changing that……   Find out more about how you can take better advantage of the changing World......
