Since its launch 20 years ago, EBay has become s household name across the world. With sites in virtually every major country in the world it has literally millions of users globally. The original concept was fairly simple. It provided a platform for people with items they wished to sell to advertise their item to people who might be interested in bidding for them.

Similar to an online 'swap meet' or 'Yard Sale' The 'online auction' was born. Allowing users to bid on an item until the clock ran down and the highest bidder winning the auction.
EBay has also become extremely popular with shops and retailers as it allows them to list their items in an 'online store' and many companies now have an 'Ebay shop' along side their more traditional retail store. A number of Businesses have blossomed through EBay allowing individuals to set up a store from their spare bedroom or garage with some reporting turnovers of £100,000 a year.

For people in remote parts of the country EBay has been a real godsend. Since items are shipped by courier or postal service, you need only pay for the item you won and wait for it to be delivered. For many EBay was their first experience of 'Online Shopping' which continues to go from strength to strength. In 2012, EBay generated over $80 Million in advertising revenue and expects to take its share of the estimated $100 Billion online retail market in 2015. For sellers, EBay represents easy access to the world of 'Online Commerce' plus the opportunity to get rid of unwanted gifts, old phones or laptops etc and any general items they are looking to get rid of. It has turned into a great way to make some cash out of unused and unwanted items.

The concept of 'Drop Shipping' has come about because of the success of Ebay and some entrepreneurs have created reasonable Online Businesses by selling products from foreign importers after building up the Capital from the sale of articles from the attic or garage.

Take a look around your place for long enough and I'll bet you'd have a few items that you could live without which could turn into more than a few hundred pounds, possibly into a $1,000. Some people might consider that enough to start a new career doing something for themselves.

Sound like you?
